Ales are characterized by being balanced, which means that the malt and
hops are balanced, as opposed to West Coast Pale Ales where the hops
are predominant. Generally speaking, these ales will be hopped with
varieties native to the British Isles, i.e. Fuggles, Kent Goldings, etc.
